What’s in a Name?
We deliver to you a piece of work—say, those first few sample pages of the website you’ve hired us to redesign and upgrade—and you’re THRILLED with it. That happens a lot.
So we think it’s fitting that our corporate identity—indeed, our very name—reflects those moments of work-induced euphoria.
Sure, there’s that moment when you say, “Ah, these people are GOOD;” but there’s that even bigger moment—for us, anyway—when word filters through our office that you really like what we’re doing. Because to hear that from you makes our day, our week, our month. It’s why we do what we do.
But that’s not all that’s in the name.
Piercing, Penetrating Creative and a Whole Lot More
To delve into the history and etymology of it all, in Olde English (c. 1300) to “thrill” was “to pierce, penetrate.” By the late 16th Century, “thrill” had adopted something of the metaphoric meaning—to pierce “with emotion”—that it carries to this day.
“Works,” of course, has its meaning and origin in various forms of “to labour,” but we also embrace its other meaning, as in “the works”—everything you might want or expect to find. That sentiment sums up our full-service company quite nicely, too.
Also, as names go, it’s a relatively cool-sounding one. Thrillworks. Agreed?
